ASSISTANT DIRECTOR: COMMUNICATIONS

 

SALARY: R468,459 annually


LOCATION: Limpopo Provincial Office


REQUIREMENTS:

  • A three-year tertiary qualification at NQF Level 6 in fields such as Communication Science, Marketing, Public Relations, Media Studies, or Journalism
  • At least two years’ experience in a supervisory role
  • Minimum of two years’ hands-on experience in media, public relations, marketing, or communication functions
  • Familiarity with departmental policies and procedures, Public Finance Management Act (PFMA), general legislative framework, project management principles, and Batho Pele standards

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver media and public relations support at the provincial level, including acting as the official spokesperson for the Department of Labour within the province on a daily basis
  • Coordinate stakeholder briefings and exhibitions throughout the province every two weeks
  • Promote departmental services at the provincial level monthly
  • Oversee internal communication channels such as notice boards and intranet postings; keep employees informed about media coverage affecting the department; produce internal newsletters regularly
  • Plan and manage all internal and external events annually, including outreach programs, outside broadcasts, and national commemorative occasions

SALARY: R325,101 per year


LOCATION: Head Office, Pretoria


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A three-year National Diploma (NQF Level 6) or an undergraduate Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) in Media Production, Graphic Design, Marketing, Digital Marketing, Communication Science, or Web Development
  • At least one year of practical experience in media production, managing social media, or creating digital content
     

KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Familiarity with the Department of Employment and Labour’s programmes and relevant legislation
  • Understanding of protocols and standards related to electronic media including social media and website management
  • Experience with video shooting and editing
  • Skills in managing websites and social media platforms, including live streaming technologies and tools
     

SKILLS:

  • Proficiency with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro
  • Strong photography and photo editing abilities
  • Competence in graphic design software like Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines
  • Client service orientation

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage the Department’s electronic media channels, including the website, intranet, social media platforms, and email systems
  • Develop, implement, and enforce standards, protocols, and guidelines for electronic media use
  • Create and publish engaging content for social media accounts

  • A recognized Honours degree supported by a BSc or equivalent in Mathematics, Physics, or Chemistry
  • Minimum of seven years relevant work experience
  • Strong understanding and practical experience in both quantitative and qualitative research methodologies, including various research designs
  • Skilled in observation and interview techniques
  • Proficient in gathering and analyzing data to formulate research plans
  • Knowledgeable in statistical methods for data collection, organization, analysis, and interpretation
  • Competent in ICT tools such as MS Word, Excel, Access, MS Projects, and internet research

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Research Unit manager in conducting studies related to teacher development programs aimed at enhancing quality education in mathematics, science, and technology
  • Collaborate with line managers, district offices, and schools to identify research priorities
  • Facilitate access to resources and promote their effective use
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of research information, including project records, resources, and reference materials
  • Support the timely provision of empirical data
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret research data and assist in drafting, presenting, and publishing reports
